COVID-19 Update for Heritage Schools March 12

This is a developing situation and changing hourly. We will post updates to social media and our web site as changes occur:

Washington DC Trip and Meeting for tonight is canceled, further information will come to parents and students.  We met with students today prior to dismissal to brief them and will communicate with parents directly soon.

There is No School Friday March 13th as planned originally in our school calendar.

Per a conference call with 41 area schools this morning Thursday March 12 hosted by the Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education with Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department, public health advised that K-12 schools will remain open pending direction from public health who will advise schools in the event of reported case(s) in our region and when to shut down and the duration of closing.  Schools were given a direct contact hotline in the event of any reports of a sickness or contact in the extended area or connected to any school or community in our region.

The school district is going to initiate contingency planning so that learning opportunities can be provided online for those with access, but we also appreciate that Internet is not equitable and Illinois State Board of Education to this point has guidance that grades should not be tied to online learning because of issues such as lack of Internet, suitable computers or devices, etc.  We will update everyone as things develop and we begin planning.

Area sports and activities are rapidly being canceled or limited to small gatherings and the school district is currently working on a statement on events coming up on our calendar that are either canceled or postponed indefinitely and what will happen with practices.  We will update our social media sites with updates.
